Phillips writes, "Both the lineation and the extended sentences themselves examples of stall and hurry [reproduce] the strange wake of loss, and a sensibility within which to contemplate the conundrum of how the body not only comes undone but seems also to want to undo itself."

Forché writes, "'Numen' dwells meditatively upon questions of consciencethe voice that calls us to responsibilityand the dialectic of doubt and faith.
